Guide to Writing an Abstract

Call for Abstracts
ACCP Annual Meeting (October 14–17, 2007)
Denver, CO

All investigators in the field of clinical pharmacy and therapeutics are invited to submit abstracts of papers to be considered for presentation at the ACCP Annual Meeting (October 14–17, 2007). All papers accepted for poster presentation, with the exception of Resident and Fellow Research-in-Progress, Encore Presentations, and Student Submissions, will automatically be entered in the Best Poster Award competition. Judging of finalists will occur during the live poster session.
ORIGINAL RESEARCH: Abstracts must describe original research in education, therapeutics, health sciences, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoepidemiology, or pharmacogenomics. Abstracts that describe in vitro or animal research are welcome. Abstracts will be evaluated based on originality, hypothesis/objectives, study design, results, and conclusions. Papers may be assigned to platform format based on the desire of the presenter and the recommendation of the reviewers.

CLINICAL PHARMACY FORUM: Abstracts must describe the delivery, development, justification, or documentation of innovative clinical pharmacy services. Abstracts dealing with payments or cost analyses are encouraged. Abstracts may be descriptive only and need not contain an evaluative component. The abstract must not have been published in abstract form or presented elsewhere prior to the ACCP Annual Meeting (October 14–17, 2007). Abstracts will be evaluated based on originality of the service or program, adequacy of justification/documentation, adaptability to other settings, and significance to clinical pharmacy. All papers will be assigned to poster format.

RESIDENTS AND FELLOWS RESEARCH-IN-PROGRESS: Submission and evaluation criteria are those of an Original Research presentation except that the research effort is ongoing. Descriptions of planned research efforts without data should not be submitted. Submission of partially completed data is acceptable. Abstracts should provide an assessment of likelihood of project completion by date of presentation. The presenting author must be a resident or fellow. The abstract title and authors will be published in Pharmacotherapy. The full abstract will be published in the meeting program book only. All papers will be assigned to poster format.

STUDENT SUBMISSIONS: Submission criteria are those of an Original Research presentation. Partially completed data are acceptable. Abstracts should provide an assessment of likelihood of project completion by date of presentation. All Student Submissions will automatically be entered in the Best Student Poster competition. The presenting author must be a student. Deadline for student submissions is Midnight Pacific Daylight Time on July 6, 2007.

ENCORE PRESENTATION: Submission and evaluation criteria are those of an "Original Research" or "Clinical Pharmacy Forum" presentation, except that abstracts may have been presented elsewhere (other than another ACCP meeting) or published in abstract form only prior to this meeting. For Encore Presentations, only the abstract title, authors, and original citation will be published in Pharmacotherapy. The full abstract will be published in the meeting program book only. All papers will be designated "Encore Presentations" and will be assigned to poster format. Encore Presentations will not be eligible for the Best Poster Award.

RESIDENT AND FELLOW BEST POSTER COMPETITION: Research must be complete and submitted as Original Research or Clinical Pharmacy Forum within one year of completion of training, and must have been conducted by the primary author/presenter while still a resident or fellow. Abstracts submitted in the Resident and Fellow Research-in-Progress category are not eligible for this competition.
